Insulation
Lightweight, highly windproof, water repellent fabrics, exceptionally breathable and able to wick moisture away from the source, ideal for sleeping bag linings and mid-layer insulated clothing.
Windproof to the industry standard of 3 cubic feet per minute.
DWR – Durable Water Repellent, a British Standard Spray Rating of 4 Minimum
Breathability rating of 12l/m²/24h
Exceptionally breathable and able to wick moisture away from the source.
Paratex Dry – Fabric
Paratex Dry is a 100% waterproof fabric (hydrophilic polyurethane coating) with a hydrostatic head in excess of 5000mm (items with a hydro static head in excess of 1500mm are generally considered waterproof)
Detailed information
What it is:Features:
Tough, lightweight, highly windproof and water repellent. A heavy-duty, closely constructed fabric, Paratex micro is exceptionally hard-wearing but still remains soft to the touch, ideal for outer casings of sleeping bags and jackets where durability is a prerequisite.
Paratex Steelplate, as the name, suggests this fabric is used on the cream of Snugpak’s products giving a great balance between aesthetics and performance.
Features
This inner lining is ‘Supersoft’. A silky smooth fabric which is specially woven to produce a highly durable and comfortable wicking breathable lining.
Reflectatherm, this metallised fabric is designed to reflect heat and retain warmth. A highly breathable material, which adds little to the weight or packsize of the product and provides at least 15% additional warmth whilst being undetectable by touch in the sleeping bag or garment.
Paratex Antibacterial – Fabric
The latest breakthrough in antibacterial technology this specialist antibacterial and antimicrobial treatment on the outer and linings of our sleeping bags acts to discourage the growth of bacteria. This results in a reduction of odours and the need for regular laundering of the sleeping bag to keep it smelling fresh, ideal for prolonged tropical travel where temperatures may be high and facilities limited. The paratex® base fabrics wicking properties and high breathability remain unaffected by the bacteria busting treatments.
Thermal suede is a lightweight polyester fabric with a suede finish, which uses a combination of yarns with different thicknesses. Microfibre yarns (less than 1 decitex) go on the outside and Macrofibre (3 decitex) go on the inside. The Macrofibre yarns are raised to produce a short pile, similar in feel to suede. The construction exploits a basic physical property – that water will always move from a low to high surface area or from the macro to microfilament yarns, thus moving water from the body outwards.
‘Micro Diamond Ripstop’ provides a lightweight, water repellent casing, produced to Snugpak’s exact specification. The mini diamond weave and the lustre of the yarn give a unique look.
Coolmax works by mopping up any perspiration created by the active body. Ideal for hiking, sports, working outdoors and pretty much any other activity where you need to stay cool or warm and dry. The superfine internal hairs search for excess moisture to absorb then wick over a larger surface area keeping the body warm when cold and cooling the body off when it starts to over-heat. Coolmax doesn’t only adjust the body’s temperature to the climate but also keeps the body more hygienic
SILVADUR™ Technology binds silver molecules (silver ions) microscopically to the travel towel surface. This specialist antibacterial and antimicrobial treatment discourages the growth of bacteria, reducing any odours and the need for regular laundering.
As part of our continuing development process to keep our synthetic insulation at the leading edge we are pleased to introduce the next generation in sleeping bag technology. Softie® Premier uses the same basic principles as traditional Softie® but improvements in extrusion technology and binding resins result in a finer, softer and more durable insulation. Both Softie® and Softie® Premier are exclusive to Snugpak.
Softie® – The brand name for the synthetic (Polyester) filling we use for the Softie® ranges of sleeping bags. It utilises superfine yarns bound with special resins to produce a luxurious down-like feel. It is created from staple yarns which mirror the compositions of natural insulation (As opposed to continuously extruded as in most synthetic fills) a variety of yarn processes are applied to give a more random effect, that is some are curled, some crimped and some are just left as they are. The random nature of the process results in a product that closely resembles the structure of natural insulators and the way they perform. Given all this technology Softie® is still easy to care for, washable and retains a lot of its thermal properties when wet.
Travelsoft insulation is tailored to Snugpak’s exact brief. Ultra-lightweight high loft fine fibres are used which have excellent compressibility.
By design, these travel orientated fibres provide less bulk of fill, yet are still able to perform very efficiently. The weight of the fibres makes it the perfect fill for adventure travel-orientated equipment.
Features:
Filled with ‘Isofibre’ siliconised hollowfibre. The synthetic fibres are structured to trap warm air between tiny cavities in the fibre. When unpacked the ‘Hollowfibres’ Decompress and spring back to gain maximum re-loft.
Merino Wool is a Natural Fibre, which is naturally soft against sensitive skin areas. Merino Wool is a warm fibre, but also allows heat and moisture to escape; Merino Wool naturally absorbs moisture to keep you dry.
Synthetic fibres can be ideal for technical insulation, but for sensitive skin areas, the natural fibres from Merino Sheep, Merino Wool, is a soft wool product that is much lighter than other sheep’s wool, making it the ideal choice for next to skin items. Merino Wool can retain heat in colder climates, as well as allow convection, conduction and evaporative heat loss in warm weathers; your feet can sweat up to 250mls (each) per day under normal conditions, and a lot more in warm weather or during increased aerobic activity.
Luxuriously thick fleece-effect pile lining. Designed to be worn next to the skin to draw perspiration from the source.
