4 more top tips for camp cooking

, by Laurence, 2 min reading time

If you're enjoying the great outdoors for an extended period of time, you're going to need to think about cooking. Whether it's just a long day's hike or a week-long adventure in the wilderness, it's essential to know the basics of outdoor cooking. These four top tips can help make sure you're able to cook comfortably.

1. Keeping things cold

If you're bringing ice with you, block ice lasts a great deal longer than ice cubes. If you don't want to bring ice, however, you can still keep things cold while maximising your storage space. Consider freezing meat, cans of juice, or bottles of drink - they will act as a cooler without taking up unnecessary space in your pack.

2. Covering your cooking pot

If you're going to be cooking in a pot, make sure you bring a pot with a lid. There are several benefits to this - the first is that food in a covered pot will cook quicker, so you won't need to use so much fuel to heat it. The lid will also protect it from flies and insects, and prevent the smell from attracting animals from further afield.

3. Using charcoal to cook

Using charcoal is one of the best ways to cook outdoors because it provides an even and manageable heat which allows you to better ensure that your food is cooked all the way through. To prepare your charcoal faster, use a charcoal chimney to heat them before pouring them out into your designated cooking area to cook over.

4. After-meal cleaning hacks

Rubbing some liquid soap around the outside of your pots can prevent them from burning and leaving scorch marks. While you're eating, put a pan of water to warm over your charcoals while they're still hot. This will mean you have hot water ready when you need it. Make sure to bring bread for mopping up the very last of soups and stews - you don't want anything going to waste. With these four extra outdoor cooking tips, you will be able to enjoy a delicious meal whatever adventures you go on. To find the perfect cookware to bring, browse the Wood to Water range today.
